Bio

When We Met is a Portland-based duo creating ethereal indie rock with a goth-grunge edge. Built around Melissa and Bryan's vocals, guitar, bass, and layered effects, their sound can feel expansive and cinematic one moment and raw and driving the next.

Since forming in 2014, When We Met has performed everywhere from dive bars and DIY spaces to festival stages, including Pioneer Courthouse Square, the Roseland Theater, and the Rose Festival. They perform primarily as a duo, creating a surprisingly full, immersive live sound, with an expanded lineup for select performances.

Their 2025 album Past Lives pushed further into atmosphere and texture, incorporating upright bass and ambient elements while keeping the melodic and heavier sides of the band intact. As When We Met continues writing and evolving, darker psychedelic, goth, and grunge influences are increasingly finding their way into the sound.
